This one-skillet meal makes for an easy lunch or dinner, and it will warm your belly right up. If you don’t own a cast iron skillet or oven-safe skillet, you can prepare the veggies and steak in a stovetop pan and then transfer the ingredients to a baking dish.

  • Step 1

    On a clean surface, slice your steak into 4-inch strips that are an 1/8 inch thick. Heat your olive oil in a skillet on medium-high heat, and add in the steak. Sprinkle the salt, pepper, onion powder, and garlic powder over the steak.

    Brown the meat. Then, turn the heat to high and cook until the steak gets a crispy outside. This cooking process takes about 12 minutes.

    Transfer the cooked steak to a dish until later use. Leave all juices in the pan. Turn the heat down to medium low. Slice the mushrooms thin and dice the green bell pepper, and add these to the skillet.

    Cook the vegetables for about 3 minutes, or until they are just cooked through. Remove the skillet from the heat.

    Preheat an oven to 350 degrees. Return the cooked steak to the skillet, and mix the meat and veggies together. If you do not own an oven-safe skillet, combine the cooked ingredients in a baking dish that has been sprayed.

    Slice the provolone cheese, if it is not already in slices. Arrange the cheese over the top of the cheesesteak ingredients so everything is covered. Bake the ingredients in the oven for about 5 minutes, or until the cheese melts.

    To get a slightly browned top, cook the skillet under a broiler for an additional 3-4 minutes before serving.

                Made this with the Aldi shaved steak and toasted Aldi Keto bread to have a sandwich. I made extra to freeze and pull out for a quick lunch or dinner in the future.

                      Due to some in my house not eating peppers, I had to keep that part separate. But it was tasty in the end. Decided next time we would like a cheesy sauce instead of just cheese melted on top. Will make again.

                            Really good. I would use a lot more mushroom and peppers. I doubled the onion and garlic powder. It bugs me when recipes tell you to preheat the oven right when you need to put it into the oven. That should be the first step.

                              Made this yesterday. Ok, I’m no chef but pretend to be:). First, I did not slice the meat thin enough. I used a flank steak but read afterward that a ribeye would be more flavorful. Next time I’m thinking of asking the butcher to slice the steak for me. I wonder if onions would be more exciting than mushrooms.

                                Watch your carb count when using onions. I’m from Philadelphia so I get that we want LOADS of onions but I use dehydrated onions, it’s different but I REALLY want to lower blood sugar and lose weight. Onions are high in sugar too. Good luck😊

                                      cooking for one, I cooked whole dish up to adding cheese. divided into 4 portions (3 for later and one now). put one serving into air fryer with cheese on top to finish. other three will be ready to add cheese and heat.

                                          This looks amazing and if you’re cooking for one like me, somebody gave me a tip. Go to your grocery store deli and ask them to slice you some very rare top round beef (1 person-1/4 lb.) and 2 slices of provolone. 👍
