Keto Philly Cheesesteak Skillet

1337 ratings

Nothing shouts “comfort food” like a fat, meaty, melty Philly Cheesesteak. We may have to skip out on the bread, but we don’t have to skip on the juicy steak and gooey cheese! This one-skillet meal makes for an easy lunch or dinner, and it will warm your belly right up. If you don’t own a cast iron skillet or oven-safe skillet, you can prepare the veggies and steak in a stovetop pan and then transfer the ingredients to a baking dish.

Recipe Steps

  • Step 1

On a clean surface, slice your steak into 4-inch strips that are an 1/8 inch thick. Heat your olive oil in a skillet on medium-high heat, and add in the steak. Sprinkle the salt, pepper, onion powder, and garlic powder over the steak.
    Step 1
  • Step 2

Brown the meat. Then, turn the heat to high and cook until the steak gets a crispy outside. This cooking process takes about 12 minutes.
    Step 2
  • Step 3

Transfer the cooked steak to a dish until later use. Leave all juices in the pan. Turn the heat down to medium low. Slice the mushrooms thin and dice the green bell pepper, and add these to the skillet.
    Step 3
  • Step 4

Cook the vegetables for about 3 minutes, or until they are just cooked through. Remove the skillet from the heat.
    Step 4
  • Step 5

Preheat an oven to 350 degrees. Return the cooked steak to the skillet, and mix the meat and veggies together. If you do not own an oven-safe skillet, combine the cooked ingredients in a baking dish that has been sprayed.
    Step 5
  • Step 6

Slice the provolone cheese, if it is not already in slices. Arrange the cheese over the top of the cheesesteak ingredients so everything is covered. Bake the ingredients in the oven for about 5 minutes, or until the cheese melts.
  • Step 7

To get a slightly browned top, cook the skillet under a broiler for an additional 3-4 minutes before serving.
    Step 7

This was so good! I used fajita/stir fry beef that was pre sliced from the grocery store and drained the liquid/grease to get a better sear. Probably my favorite recipe thus far! Quick and simple

I think I'm going to make this but instead of putting peppers in with the meat I'll make it as stuffed peppers!

Very good but I miss the toasted bun! ;D I used thin sliced sirloin and skipped the oven part. After mixing the meat back into the veggies, I layered the cheese on top, placed a lid over the skillet and let it melt down. Will keep this on out "favs" list.

Making for the second time tonight. I use Monterey Jack cheese instead of provolone. I use different seasonings as well and didn’t have flank steak but used flat iron steak cut into thin small pieces. Absolutely my favorite Keto meal so far. So different stuff but the same idea and concept. Thanks

I do this using a chuck roast rendered down in the crockpot all day. It so tender and it makes plenty for a family of 4 with leftovers

My flank steak was not cut as thinly as your recipe requires, so it merely turned grizzly and tough when I was finished the 12 minutes of frying it.... So I put it in a casserole dish with the lid on for 2 and 1/2 hours at 300°F and the meat was finally tender, juicy and the veggies had marinated nicely. Drained off some of the fluid, added 1/2 cup phili cheese and then popped it back in the oven with the provolone under broil. Added onion and fresh garlic when cooking the meat. Also added Worcestershire sauce,a Tbsp of apple cider vinegar (nod to Jenn Segal), oregano, sweet paprika and a couple of bayleaf too. Spruced up the taste!

Added fresh garlic during the browning of the steak and onion to the vegetables. Very good.

Made with ground meat. I also didn’t have provolone so I substituted cheddar, added onions and some harissa sauce for kick. VERY good. Will make again; and that’s from a #PhillyGirl
