Keto Crock Pot Kielbasa and Sauerkraut
Polish sausage (Kielbasy) pairs greatly with intensely flavored cabbage, also known as sauerkraut. While you certainly need a taste for fermented foods, this dish is packed with all sorts of good-for-you nutrients. You can thank healthy bacteria and science for this one!
The cooking time for this recipe is a suggestion - you can absolutely set your Crock Pot on low heat and leave it running all day while you’re at work. The longer the better, and your house will smell heavenly when you get home!

Just fry Claussen sauerkraut in a pan with some butter and avocado oil and add Turkey kielbasa. Cool til brown. Forget all the spice. Fantastic!

I know this must be a matter of individual taste, I really thought this was bad. I don’t think I did anything wrong.

As an Eastern European, I would say that you can definitely make this dish without the sauerkraut, if you don’t like the tartness, you can just use sliced/shredded cabbage, definitely add salt and spices though to fresh cabbage before cooking, (work it in a bowl with your hands), but if you want some tartness you could mix some sauerkraut with the fresh cabbage, it will still come out real tasty. I make this on the stove top a lot of times, I don’t use sauerkraut. It’s braised cabbage with kielbasa. Try it!

What brands of kielbasa don’t have corn syrup or sugar? I’m having trouble finding.

We loved this!! I did not add any salt as the kielbasa and the kraut were already salty enough. Also, I didn’t quite have enough kraut, so I subbed in a little spicy kimchi, which I think added such a great flavor, I might do it again “just cuz”.

Delicious!! Will definitely revisit my daughters were visiting and they loved it also. Very satisfying. Didn’t change anything except salt. I never add salt to anything. That’s a learned habit, because as a child I was a salt fanatic. So as an adult no salt. Lol

Definitely will make next time with less smoked paprika.

It’s mild paprika not smoked. But I bet it was good with the smoked paprika but definitely in lesser quantity.

If you don’t like kraut you can use shredded cabbage

I just browned the kielbasa and added the kraut. Did not need all the seasonings, perfect recipe for winter!

I made this and it was pretty good. Hubby liked it and he's not KETO. Season to taste. It's a small serving size- so I'm still hungry.. Note: Don't add salt and seasonings until you taste the cooked items. Different kielbasa/sausage and sauerkraut have varying levels of added salt and seasoning already added to it.

Too much paprika for me. Next time I will use just 1/2 Tablespoon. Otherwise it was a easy, tasty dish without the vinegary/tart taste of sauerkraut. Make sure ingredients are keto approved. I had to pay more than I normally would for the kielbasa & sauerkraut (bought from Kroger)

I have made this over and over again. Great keto meal and sauerkraut is so healthy for you. I eat a quarter cup of sauerkraut with every meal. I do not make any changes to the recipe. Love it and thank you

I made with kielbasa & sauerkraut horseradish mustard, chicken broth, salt & pepper, onions, & baked. Love it think I will add caraway seeds. Make this 1-2 times a month. Sauerkraut is a terrific probiotic.

You are correct.

I may be mistaken, but if you heat the sauerkraut, it kills the good bacteria. It needs to be raw, unpasteurized and kept cold for the beneficial bacteria to live.

I skipped the spices and substituted turkey sausage. Don’t know what the carb difference is but it sure taste good. Had it with 1 slice Keto bread. Delicious

I'm Polish and love my sauerkraut and kielbasa, but this was inedible. We threw it away. Skip that awful mix of spices and just bake or cook the dish with the meat and kraut.

I’m German and I always add spices especially caraway seeds.

I only buy Bavarian Style Sauerkraut with the Caraway seeds and wine already in it. I also like to brown the sausage first no other spices. Yum

I’m German, we always use multiple spices in kraut especially caraway seed! Not the same without it
Val 5 years ago
Thank you it didn’t sound good to me so I will make it without the spices

Heating the sauerkraut all day in the slow cooker kills any probiotic benefit from fermentation. If you really want the fermentation benefit it should be made using fermented cabbage rather than canned sauerkraut and do not use a slow cooker.

Canned sauerkraut doesn’t do sauerkraut justice. At least buy the fresh in the bags. Also, don’t heat the sauerkraut if you want the probiotics. Let it come to room temperature.
