How to Thin or Thicken Your Keto Cheese Sauce

Butter, heavy cream and cheddar cheese are simply melted together to create a naturally thick and rich Keto cheese sauce. Once melted together, simply allow the sauce to stand and cool for 5 minutes to thicken up further. If you desire a thinner Keto cheese sauce recipe, you can add a little almond milk or vegetable stock to the saucepan to thin the sauce to your liking.

  • Step 1

    Heat a medium sized skillet over a low heat. Add the butter and allow to melt. Carefully whisk the cream into the melted butter in 3 separate additions. Make sure the fats completely emulsify before continuing.

    In 3-4 additions, whisk in the cheddar cheese. Continually stir until the cheese is completely melted. You should have a smooth and creamy sauce consistency.

    Set the sauce to one side to cool for 5 minutes. This cooling time will allow the sauce to thicken. Once cooled a little, the sauce is ready to serve and enjoy.

            I make this cheese sauce often for different casseroles and especially for Cauliflower dishes, only I add a little dry mustard powder and a little garlic powder, we love it, best cheese sauce ever!

              Used this over my burger, so very good. It us so rich and creamy just needed 2 tablespoons. Also used over Cauliflower again amazing.

                Does not re-heat well after refrigeration. I tried to re-heat this sauce using a saucepan on a stove and it turned into goopy cheese in yellow oil.

                      Whoa! I’ve tried to use sharp cheddar in cheese sauce to no avail. But this? Omg. I added a dash of smoked paprika, dash of crushed red pepper and a dash of nutmeg. Served over garlic roasted broccoli. Omg.

                                I add grated Parmigiano Regianno (to taste) and 1 tsp of Paprika and 1 tsp of regular mustard. It's so good my kids who are NOT doing Keto keep asking me to make it 😁

                                    I added a dash of Kinders the blend and a dash of tarragon and poured over roasted cauliflower. It was so amazing! The entire family devoured it. We had some leftover so I’m excited to see how it holds up for leftovers.

                                            Really good cheese sauce! I followed the instructions except for letting it sit 5 mins at the end. I let it sit 1-2 mins. It started getting a skin then. I added 1 tsp low sugar mustard and a little extra salt. Made exactly 1 cup so portioning it out was easy, I just used a 1/4 cup measuring scoop.
