Step 1
Preheat the oven to 390 degrees Fahrenheit and line a shallow oven tray with baking paper.Step 2
Heat the olive oil in a large frying pan over a medium heat. Add the peppers and onions and fry gently until tender and caramelised – around 15/20 minutes.Step 3
While the peppers are cooking, add the ground beef, garlic powder, egg and parmesan to a large mixing bowl. Season well.Step 4
Combine the mixture thoroughly with your hands and transfer to the lined tray. Press into a large circle about 1cm thick to form the base.Step 5
Transfer to the oven to bake for 15 minutes, remove and drain off any excess liquid.Step 6
While the base is cooking you can make the sauce. Add the passata, balsamic, oregano and dried basil to a medium saucepan.Step 7
Bring to the boil gently and reduce to a simmer for about 10 minutes, stirring frequently until thickened.Step 8
Spoon the sauce evenly over the meatza base and top with torn mozzarella chunks.Step 9
Arrange the pepper and onion pieces over the top of the mozzarella.Step 10
Return to the oven for a further 12-15 minutes until the meat is piping hot and cooked through and the cheese is melted. Scatter with fresh basil to serve.

Like one of the other ladies, I find that my Hubs who doesn't low carb loves this served with a salad and wraps.

I made it and halved the recipe for my husband and me. It was great! My husband is not on keto and had a slice of garlic bread with it. I thought it tasted really good.

What type of ground beef did you use or could it be substituted with ground turkey?

How do you keep from totally overlooking the meat base?

Sounds tasty, but I'd have to get way more slices out of it considering my daily protein is supposed to be 50 g

Not really, ONE slice is almost 40 grams of protein, so have 2 :) and you'll exceed your goal. I have to have much more protein than 50 grams. Also Fage Greek yogurt (zero fat) has almost the same amount of protein and it comes in 5oz single serve cups.

My settings might make my macros different from yours (2 meals a day in a 6 hour window). But I’m seeing 39.5 g of protein in one slice, for one meal. Are you eating only one meal a day? If I eat the cucumber salad with it for this meal, and add the breakfast, I get over 80 grams of protein for the day, way over recommendations. Just add a deviled egg appetizer and you’d be good if you are one OMAD. If you set carb manager to fix the recipes to YOUR macros, it tries to adjust the recipe to provide what you need for that meal and makes a suggestion if it can.
