Low Histamine Air Fryer Herbed Chicken Thighs Sweet Potato and Asparagus Platter

Our Low-Histamine chicken recipe is a delicious Paleo-style dinner consisting of crispy, tender chicken thighs sprinkled with parsley, nicely browned, roasted sweet potatoes, and crisp asparagus. All the components of this recipe are cooked in an air fryer but feel free to cook them in the oven as well. The meal is the ultimate family-friendly dinner. We love this type of dinner because it's full of nutrients and is high in protein.

Why must I use flash-frozen chicken?

Any meat that has been aged or left out to grow bacteria will cause the meat to be higher in histamine. Stick to buying unaged meats or meats that have been frozen immediately after slaughter.

Can I use other herbs?

Yes, feel free to substitute the dried parsley for other Low-Histamine friendly herbs like basil, cilantro, dill, or thyme. Feel free to use a combination!

  • Step 1

    Peel and rinse the sweet potatoes. Then cut them into a 1” dice. Trim the fibrous ends off the asparagus.

    Place the potatoes in the bottom of an air fryer basket without the rack. Drizzle them with two tablespoons of avocado oil. Then add one teaspoon of kosher salt. Stir the mixture.

    Then cook the sweet potatoes in the air fryer at 400 F (200 C) for 20 minutes, shaking the basket after 15 minutes or so. Once the potatoes are cooked, remove them to a warmed platter.

    Next, add the chicken thighs to the basket set on top of a rack. Sprinkle the thighs with one teaspoon of kosher salt on both sides. Sprinkle one teaspoon of dried parsley on the top.

    Then cook the thighs in the air fryer at 400 F (200 C) for 18 minutes or so until the thighs are cooked through and nicely browned. Once cooked, remove them to the warmed platter. You can keep the platter with the sweet potatoes in a warmed oven if you would like.

    Place asparagus into the air fryer basket on a rack. Drizzle the asparagus with 2 tsp of avocado oil and season them with 1/4 tsp of kosher salt. Cook them in the air fryer for 400 F (200 F) for 1-2 minutes or until desired doneness is achieved. Serve the asparagus on the platter with the chicken and sweet potatoes.
