Actually, I’ve replaced my french fries with these after trying a few other substitutes. However, I parboil them first, drain, cool on toweling and then season and bake. They don’t taste at all like celery. Besides, as I am the only one eating them, when I make a batch, freezing the parboiled portion extras allows for less work when I want them.

Question once par boiled do you think they come out crispier as appose to just putting straight in the oven

Celeriac is a vegetable in its own right. It is not the root of celery. They are completely different vegetables. Great recipe though.

It’s not the root of the celery plant. It’s a totally different vegetable.

These are delicious! Warning: if you don't like celery, you're probably not going to like to root if the celery. They're both descendants of the same wild celery plant! A decadent twist would be to add a tiny drizzle if truffle oil and a little chopped parsley when they come out of the oven. Yum!

This is much like what I do with turnips! If anyone isn’t a fan of the celery-ish flavour (which I love but it’s not for everyone!) turnip fries are fantastic. Air fry them, bake like in this recipe or my favourite, do them in a cast iron with butter until they’re browned then add some cheese and even a keto gravy for poutine! 👌🏻

I just made these for dinner and they were so tasty with similar textures and taste to potatoes. Finally I've found a good potato replacement, and it passed with flying colors for my roommate, who is the biggest potato lover! I'm going to try celery root for mashed potatoes instead of cauliflower..

Wow! I couldn’t believe this. I never thought celery root would taste this good. Grandpa didn’t even notice they weren’t potatoes. I cut them thinner than normal French fries and topped with sharp cheddar and shredded Parmesan. Next time I might broil for a bit prior to adding cheese just to brown them up.

I tried the celery root and didn't like the flavor. I tried rutabaga and tried to cut them a little wider and as uniform as I could. I do believe I like the rutabaga fries over potato fries. I didn't use any of the cheese and they were great but used some onion powder.

Agree with the flavor of celery root. I made these as a mix of celery root and rutabaga to see how they compare and the rutabaga was so much better! If you use celery root, you'll definitely need the cheese, the rutabaga tasted good enough not to have to cover them with cheese or spices.

I did not like this at all. All they taste like to me is fried celery, and I don’t like celery. I was hoping they would taste better.
