Keto Tennesse Hot Chicken
Tennessee Hot Chicken is a famous style of chicken normally found in The South. Don’t second guess yourself on the name either; this chicken is hot! If the spicy ingredient list is too intimidating for you, you can always modify the spice level to your preference. Each chicken thigh is crispy, crunchy, and leaves the heat burning in the back of your throat. Good thing this dish includes a pickle garnish to cut the spice!
* Special Note: please use 2 cups of Grapeseed Oil for this recipe. The amount of oil included is for accurate nutrition calculation purposes only.

Ingredients
Raw Egg
2 large
Tabasco Sauce
½ tablespoon
Parmesan Cheese
2 cup, shredded
Almond Flour
⅓ cup
Salt
¼ teaspoon
Black Pepper
½ teaspoon
Crushed Red Pepper by Simply Organic
¼ tsp
Red Pepper (cayenne), Ground
¼ teaspoon
Gourmet Collection Smoked Paprika by Mccormick
½ tablespoon
Chicken Thigh
1-½ pound
Grapeseed Oil
½ cup
Tabasco Sauce
½ tablespoon
Sweet Pickles (gherkins)
1-½ ounce
Recipe Steps
steps 7
40 min
Step 1
In a bowl, whisk together the eggs and first amount of Tabasco sauce. Set aside.Step 2
In another bowl, combine the parmesan cheese, almond flour, salt, pepper, red pepper, cayenne, and paprika. When this mixture is made, pour it onto a wide plate. This will be easier for coating the chicken later.Step 3
Prepare the chicken thighs by laying them on a clean, flat surface. Place a piece of plastic wrap over the chicken and gently pound the pieces to an even thickness of a little under 1-inch. You should have 4-5 chicken thighs total.Step 4
*Please see Special Note in recipe description. Heat the grapeseed oil in a large skillet on high heat. When the oil is evenly hot, coat each chicken thigh into the spicy egg mixture, then the dry mixture, and then into the oil.Step 5
Cook the chicken thighs for approx. 5 minutes per side. They should naturally release from your skillet when they are ready to be flipped.Step 6
Transfer the cooked chicken thighs to a plate lined with paper towels to absorb excess oil.Step 7
For serving, drizzle the second amount of Tabasco over the cooked chicken. Slice the pickles, and arrange these over the chicken as well.

Don't you mean "Tennessee" Hot Chicken?

I figured out the macros on this recipe that are actually correct:. My package included 28 oz of chicken thighs or about seven normal sized chicken thighs 4oz boneless and skinless. So the macros that follow is for seven servings: 352 calories per serving, 23 total fat grams, two carbs, one fiber, (1 net carb) and 34 g of protein. The macros on the original recipe are way off, and I believe that's because the author assumed that all of the oil in the recipe was going to be absorbed, but that's not true - at most 10% of the oil used in any given frying recipe is absorbed so my macros above are at the max amount of absorbed oil. The reason I deducted a star from the recipe although it is very tasty is because the macros are so far off. My suggestion to you is to use my macros above preparing the recipe as written, with one thigh, approx 4oz, as your serving size. Also don't go into the recipe thinking that it's actually Nashville hot, there's far more spices involved in a Nashville hot chicken but it's still really good on its own.

What I am going to do is create a custom recipe and omit the oil & pickles and cook it in the air fryer. Otherwise the recipe sounds good to me.

As a fully qualified Medical Biochemist who has worked on a few diabetic researches, it concerns me that people don't grasp that Keto plus high calories does not equate to weight loss .... No matter how much fat you eat. Why Keto appears to work is that people end up cutting calories. This is a very unhealthy meal choice. Simply pat chicken pieces with spices and bake in the oven - tasty and a fraction of the cost. So why do I use Carb Manager? Because I am diabetic and keep my carbs low to diet/weight control it .... And this provides an easy way to document what you eat.

One serving is 1/4 chicken thigh? Is that correct?

I keep hearing that grapeseed oil should be avoided like peanut oil on Keto. Could this be done with coconut oil or olive oil?

Avocado oil has a high flash point in cooking you can heat it up to 500°

You could use avocado oil instead it has a high/.0 for cooking.

While grapeseed oil is not quite the healthiest oil, it is very good for frying due to its high smoke point. You may want to avoid using olive oil, since its smoke point is lower, but coconut oil would be a good substitution here. Hope this helps!

Has anyone actually made this and can comment on how it tastes and/or compares to Nashville hot chicken?

If you’re using Sweet Gherkins than it’s not Keto. Also, if you’re Keto than worry more about the protein. Too much protein gets converted by the liver to glucose.

Pretty sure a recipe is a guideline 🤷🏻♀️ you need to get creative to make a recipe work for your needs. The recipe poster made this for their needs.

Please provide the scientific literature that states when gluconeogenisis occurs. Every body is different and their body reacts differently. There's is still a lot to learn.

I think this recipe is so high in fats and calories because it has taken the 2 cups of grapeseed oil used for frying into the total foods eaten. When I try it I'll edit the grapeseed out and add the amount of oil absorbed in frying seperately. This makes the macros much more realistic.

Yes I’m curious as well. The fat grams and calories for this meal is ridiculous for 1 serving. Please clarify.

Is the amount of calories for 1 serving of this dish 1583?

Something is a fowl. I believe there is a bug in the calorie count. The recipe implies four servings, but the calories and weight per serving seems to be for all the ingredients.
